A sustainable campus

The hydroponic wall

The hydroponic wall

In the relaxation area of the new library, a hydroponic wall will be installed. This is a vertical system that enables plants to grow without the use of soil.
Stemmed from the Sport e benessere nella vita universitaria (Sport and Wellness in University Life) project, part of the Sustainability Mission, this initiative combines wellness promotion, technology and sustainable agriculture.

Developed as part of the Passion in Action project Nuove sinergie tra uomo e natura per la sostenibilità (New synergies between humanity and nature for sustainability), the wall will be equipped with a real-time environmental monitoring system. This detects temperature, humidity, light and air quality, and an automated plant care mechanism.

A key aspect is the direct involvement of Politecnico students, who participated in the prototype design and implementation.

An initial prototype of the wall was presented at the FOOD&CITY exhibition, hosted at the Leonardo Campus and open until 23 December. This is a practical example of how sustainable innovation can arise from partnerships between students, companies and universities, and translate into real solutions to improve spaces and quality of life.
